John D. Rockefeller was born into a large and poor family in Richford, New York. He later founded Standard Oil Incorporated. A brutal and monopolistic company that used several anti-competitve
tactics, including agreements with railroads under the South Improvement Company which saw John D. Rockefeller amass large amounts of wealth as the majority shareholder of Standard Oil. At its peak in 1904,
Standard Oil controlled 91% of oil production and 85% of final sales in the United States. Later, Theodore Roosevelt "the trustbuster" became president against Rockefeller's wishes.
Standard Oil was later smashed to pieces by the US Government and the Sherman Act of 1890. The remaining pieces of Standard Oil are shown in the image below.
