The major turning point between 1865 and 1919 I chose was the second industrial revolution.

The second industrial revolution was a major turning point between 1865 and 1919. This era saw the rise of railroads, oil, steel, the telegraph, as well as sewer and water systems, and of course the first airplane made by Wilbur and Orville Wright. This was a thriving time for businesses as magnates like John D. Rockefeller rose to power, as well as businesses like Standard Oil. This boom in industry paved the way for the absolute devastation caused by the first and second world wars as well as the United States' rise to global dominance. The affect this had was a net positive for the modern world, as previously stated, many modern technologies devloped here such as the telegraph which inspired the telephone. The telephone revolutionized the way we communicate. Railroads drastically changed the world of transportation globally, but here in the United States it then succeeded in the world of freight transport. Crude oil has many uses in todays world although it is starting to slow down, oil can be purified into gasoline to power cars and it can be made into engine oil for cars. Steel became an invaluable building material due to its strength and relatively cheap cost. Sewer and water systems had a positive impact on the health of people because a dedicated system to remove waste was good for hygiene and a dedicated water system meant more people had a supply of clean drinking water, directly in their homes.
